That helmet design always confused me as a kid. Sure, it's definitely iconic and original, but it's still weird. Still, a clever way to give a videogame hero a very recognizable profile with a limited amount of polygons.

I'm guessing the helmet had a store of ammo at the rear of the head, and maybe some extra straps running into the suit's back, to help counter-balance it.
As an aside, those geniuses at Shiny knew that they COULDN'T put enough polygons into the character model, so Kurt is actually made from 2D sprites, with the game revolving around him.

The helmet-cannon alone kept me from playing this. Too bad for me... It was an awesome and innovative Sci-fi shooter it seems...
