The IJN also had their own MP corps (the Tokubetsu Keisatsutai, or Tokkeitai), but due to their much smaller size, in practice the IJA Kempeitai also acted as MPs for the IJN (unless it is vitally important that the IJA be kept away from meddling in the IJN affairs, in which case the Tokkeitai is used instead).

They were more of a secret police like the Gestapo and even Japanese civilians feared them.
