I guess Japan never did get over their big-gun battleship obsession even if this is just a 40mm (that has a hypersonic muzzle velocity). This combined with them building a 20,000 ton "Guided Missile Destroyer" and I think JDS Yamato might be coming onto the scene very soon...

Hasn't the U.S. been experimenting with warship-mounted railguns for decades now?

It makes you wonder, how much damage can a 40mm shell traveling at frickin Mach 6.5 do? For that matter, how much damage can a 356mm shell do?
