Hm. That's actually a very good question. Since Gensokyo gets what the real world forgets, what receives the things that Gensokyo no longer needs? Is there an infinite loop of Gensokyos that keep progressively getting less and less developed or is Gensokyo the 'end of the line'?
Isn't that means the real world have forgot about the modern civilization, which in turn means that the real world have regress into an uncivilized state like the real Gensoukyo was? What happened to the real world? Doomsday did it?
Well, as you can see on next page, RL is still there..
Though many things concerning modern knowledge has certainly slipped through the cracks to fantasy, gensokyo from everything we've seen (in this alternate universe, of course) contains buildings unlike in modern world and it's so wealthy and vast nowadays (like a fantasy world, literally..) that lehman shocks aside, I'd like to think, at least, that it's been like this for some time and they've evolved their magical-industrial civilization partly themselves using things that dropped off our world as a base. Unless you believe entire downtowns of ten alpha world cities were "forgotten" and bumped off as is to Gensokyo to create what we see. And they have magitech we don't, like those interdimensional transports.
Concerning the 0-series' introduction, one might think, that they might not have capacity/skill to manufacture trains themselves, or that it might even be a religious ritual of sorts - since things are going to enter fantasy from the RL anyway, why not use them instead.
AFter all, if you enter Heaven, it'd be sad to hear your place has been filled already.
All just my baseless pondering so don't be annoyed if you disagree.

Actually, this version of Gensokyo was created when the economy collapsed a few years ago. Many people lost their financial dreams and they were passed into Gensokyo. Thus the sudden modernism.
Would the PC-98 games be considered forgotten in any way?
But, Sanae...Who knows. If even Gensokyo forgets something......where does it go...?...that guy would be sad if you keep making that face. And of course, so will I.
