Uploading doujin samples (and doujins in general)

I see some people upload sample pages of doujins whenever they appear on pixiv. This is very common for Touhou. Shouldn't this practice be disallowed, considering we discourage full doujin uploads as well?

And yet, we still have a load of full doujins uploaded and approved. Here's a few example coming from just tags I'm subscribed to:

pool #3874, pool #3838, pool #3823, pool #3835, pool #3831

Sure, cue in the usual rule about it being a grey area with doujin uploading in this site (There are only a few cases where the artist demanded removal), but I can't help feeling danbooru being treated as another translation outlet after Viole. Especially when uploaders upload said doujins, and hope those hooked with the stories will approve/translate them.

Personally, I've thought a secondary reason for discouraging doujin uploads in general is because they tend to lack artistic quality. A few users such as iori98, Zekana, and Krugger have uploaded lots of doujins and comics on pixiv, and a lot of them are of average quality or worse. A lot seem to have average content or simply an interesting gimmick. I'm guilty of this too (having uploading the majority of pool #865). I'm not sure all of these should be approved.

I always assumed the art was secondary to the story. If the comic proved to be interesting for some reason (story/gag/whatever) it was fine.

Uploading doujin that cannot be linked back to pixiv (or the artists webpage) really should be nipped in the bud as it is crossing the copyright "line".

Lastly I we should put a stop to uploading sample doujins. While it does happen (not apparent it is a sample when uploaded) it should be in general discouraged.

Well I cannot say from the perspective of other people but for myself if I happen to come across an interesting doujin (I am a sucker for the more offbeat stuff) I upload it and hope it will be approved and translated so I can fully enjoy it.

That being said, if it is never translated so be it. It was the art and the story that the images were already telling that caused me to upload it, not the hope it will be translated someday.

Doujin samples tend to be a bad idea to me because they're generally not interesting by themselves, and if approved they can encourage to post scans of the missing pages later.
I've been sometimes tempted to post samples when they looked exceptionally awesome (;_;), but unless the story can make sense with the sample alone this is nothing but frustration.

I can agree with that.
I'm unlikely to upload "funny" comics because I'm no translator to make sure if they're actually funny or not.

Well to a degree you can tell if something will be funny even without the translation, how funny is the question.

pool #1017 is a prime example. You don't need to read Japanese to get a chuckle out of it. Translated is just the icing on the cake.

I have little to say regarding the upload of full doujinshi, but I do agree there is no sense uploading samples unless they're quite pretty good.

Voile also relies considerably on translations from Danbooru, with acknowledging us (okay, them, the translators) in credits. Even otherwise, I see no problem in that by itself.

That's rather noticeable with all those recent new comics from Magica Madoka for instance.

As for Black Candy, if there is anything it does is made me read the series it is based on. What keeps it running is new rule like this , which pretty much means free ticket to get an approval.

Of course, each persons has a different taste regarding what should be up on this site. I like my share of rasenkiryuu and (ysy)s, though one is lazy and the other is out of the usual.

And generally, it is those who wanted the translations there uploaded them here. And they usually got the scanlations from the same sources too.

That said, unless the rule about doujin is reworked, it's a loss cause to discuss about this.

Personally I find pool #3839 a far worse offense than any of the doujin pools.

Perhaps because it totals up to 196 pictures (And more to come actually...) in a matter of 6 days? Of course, it was approved with the first batch, so...
