Safebooru and the guro tag

Posted under Tags

A safebooru user asked me to tag an image explicit so it would disappear from safebooru; The image in question was tagged guro. I misunderstood the purpose of rating and rated it as requested, which was immediately reversed and I was pointed to the fine manual, which I really should have read first.

The point of safebooru doesn't seem to be documented anywhere; I searched the wiki for it. Is Safebooru meant to have only sexually-safe images or a minimum of objectionable images? If it's the second case, can we please have the guro tag blacklisted by default on Safebooru?

I'm pretty sure it's the former. To my knowledge the only difference between Danbooru and Safebooru is that e- and q-rated posts are hidden in Safe. I can only speculate the motivation behind this, but I'd guess it's because sexual images tend to be somehow legally restricted while violent images tend not.

Couldn't he just use the blacklist?

He could, if there were one of him, but there was a small group. It was a discussion on IRC. Basically, someone complained about the image, a few other people chipped in, etc.

They can still use a blacklist. The number of people doesn't change that.

From asking around on IRC, it seems there's a lot of people, mostly without accounts, who consider Safebooru to be a "Danbooru that's safe to browse in public". Is it really worthwhile to make them sign up just to blacklist guro and then never contribute anything?

Is creating an account and blacklisting things you don't like really that difficult? It shouldn't take more than 3 or 4 minutes tops, and then you're done.
