Tag group for specific school uniforms

Posted under Tags

I'm thinking of writing up a tag group for specific school uniforms that are tagged on Danbooru, such as Odaiba Middle School uniform, Anzio School uniform, St. Gloriana's School uniform and so on. Would it be best to write these in the existing attire tag group, or to create a new tag group listing all of these in a particular order? Also, what would the best format be when writing this list? Some series have multiple uniforms (Girls und Panzer for one), while others only have one.

For the school uniforms, if the list isn't too long couldn't they all just be listed in the school uniform wiki? The downside with putting it in a tag group is that they won't show up under related tags for school uniform during tag editing.

It takes an extra step, but you can just type in "list_of_uniforms", then use the related tags function on that. I often do that when I know a tag group/list has a tag but I don't know the name of it off the top of my head. Just make sure to delete that tag before you submit.

Got the List of Uniforms up and running.

I did a once over and organized things a little better. As it is now, it's pretty much self-explanatory so I removed the explanatory paragraph.

Now that there's a "List_of_uniforms" wiki, I'll probably go and start tagging some of the series that I'm more familiar with. I'll probably do Saki next since it has such a wide variety of schools.

Edit:

After thinking about Saki, there are certain schools in certain series that shouldn't get tagged since the characters either where another uniform tag, i.e. Eisui wearing miko outfits, and other schools that wear whatever the hell they want, i.e. Ryuumonbuchi and Rinkai.

I saw several of the wikis you recently created, and wanted to address something before too much work gets done.

Basically, I don't believe in adding the "school type" tags to the tag name. I.e. koukou, gakuen, etc. The Japanese Romanization should only be done for the school name itself.

So...

If needed, such as in tag collisions, then High School and Middle School can be specified, as opposed to using their Japanese terms.

E.g.

Thoughts?

That's what I wanted to ask about, but I guess it didn't come across properly. I was mainly concerned about adding the type of school to the tag (high school vs. koukou, junior high school vs. chuugakkou, etc.)

There will be some tag clashes as you said, such as in Myoudou Gakuen (HeartCatch Precure!, I need to change it from Myoudou Academy) where it's one school comprised of junior high and high schools, but the uniforms are drastically different. I already made the junior high and high school tags, but I need to switch them over from 'Academy' to 'Gakuen' tags to fit with the Japanese naming convention.

Again, I know there's going to be lots and lots of work and cleaning up on my part as I create these new uniform tags until a set standard is made, so bear with me here. But I can go back and eliminate the school types from the tags if there's only one defined class of students.

Well, I only brought the above up because that's what I'm doing at least (or have done in the case of GuP). IMO the simpler the tag name the better. Having a set standard will also prevent parallel tagging from going on, where duplicate taggers are tagging the same thing but using different names.

For now at least, I'll add the Saki names that I have used and those that I plan to use to the List of Uniforms wiki.

I was thinking of adding an alzano school uniform tag for the rather distinctive uniform of Alzano Imperial Magic Academy in Rokudenashi Majutsu Koushi to Akashic Record. Only thing is, it's a mixed school, and the boys' uniform is completely different to the girls' one, and there actually are a significant number of named male students in the series, unlike for most series with uniform tags, even if those students are relatively minor characters, and none of them seem to appear in any art at present.

Should I just go ahead and create the tag, and if so then should it apply to both genders?

Does anyone know if the schools in Gochiusa are named? There's three different kinds of school uniforms in the series (post #2717136: one for Rize and Sharo, one for Cocoa and Chiya, and one for the Chimame-tai) and searching for them currently is rather imprecise. If the schools don't have names, what would be the best way to tag them?

We could always use a placeholder name for those, but I'm not sure about how the community feels about that...?

Instead that might fall into the same category as the extra tag, with school uniform being as precise as we can currently tag those instances.

It's fine for copyrights with low tag counts and few variations of school uniforms, but in this instance I feel it is worthwhile. Currently you could search all of the characters in combination with school uniform (school_uniform ~kirima_sharo ~tedeza_rize), but there are plenty of situations with different characters and outfits that add noise, and also some instances that are missed where neither character may end up getting tagged (post #2515275: should that be considered a cosplay of Sharo or of Rize? It's not always easy to say). When particular extras become popular enough, they get placeholder tags made up for them (like with K-ON!: whether they stay placeholders varies.

For here, I was thinking of the placeholders being Hoto Cocoa's school uniform, Kafuu Chino's school uniform, and Tedeza Rize's school uniform, defaulting to the Rabbit House staff, but specifying the additional characters that wear them in the wiki page. And if the schools actually are named, that can get aliased.
