Both tags seems to have virtually the same wiki and are used for the same types of images.

+1 Half the time I forget to use potato_chips instead of chips. If there is a different kind of chips that's visually distinctive (doubt it), then it could just be tagged as *_chips instead.

Mmm, we have a poker chip tag, don't we. Hopefully it won't be confused with that. Heck, hopefully it won't be confused with french fries either (for all the brits out there).

I'm sorta half-half on this... I would prefer the alias go the other way instead (as potato_chips is infinitely more expressive and less ambiguous than just chips). When the alias is seen, it's likely to create a lot less confusion. chips shoud be gardened as the first step if it isn't already.
