Ways to search for quality

Posted under General

Never posted to the forum before, so if this in the wrong place, someone please redirect me.

Context for this post: Vocaloid popularity has been in decline for a while, and this is reflected in the amount of vocaloid art released. For a while you could expect loads of top-tier quality Vocaloid fanart to appear, this isn't as true nowadays. Pixiv by default doesn't let you filter for quality unless you pay them, so I'm wondering if there's ways to search for quality art in a certain category (vocaloid, kancolle, etc).

Tl;dr, I am considering throwing my money at pixiv anyway, just wondering if there's other ways to search JP artists at large for content, with a quality filter, in this way.

In theory just being on the site and approved should be a guarantor of a certain degree of quality - that's half the reason for danbooru's existance after all.

In practice vocaloid may be a bit less so than other things as it was at its peak in popularity at around the same time as the site's standards were at their lowest, but the principle still holds true - you'll find very little outright bad art on the site unless you're browsing status:deleted, and if you do come across some then you should probably at least consider flagging it.

Things like score should work in this way in theory, but in practice prioritise what something is a picture of over how well it is drawn, leading to stuff like post #2561686 getting a score of just 4 while stuff like post #1530060 (NSFW, like most things with overinflated scores) gets a score of over a hundred (just examples - I'm sure there are plenty of more extreme examples out there).

There are various pools for high quality in a specific way, but this is regardless of the rest of the image, and they depend a lot on whether someone who sees the picture thinks to add it or not.

Yeah, I understand that side of things. On this site score: is my main quality filter. The NSFW inflation effect is pretty easy to address since you can filter for what level of nsfw you want, and just adjust the score to match the nsfw level, since the inflation is pretty consistent w/ the level.

What I'm looking for is ways to find good content, outside of danbooru, and possibly add it to the site. Basically when people add HQ stuff to this site, how do they find it? Any special tricks? or is it just randomly finding good artists and adding their best works to the site. I've just lurked forever so I don't know about actually contributing. Now that vocaloid content is more sparse, I'd like to help with finding the high quality works that are still being released regardless of SFW level, I just don't know where to start.

You're aware of the *users入り tags used by Pixiv users as a sort of manually added score counter, right? The basic vocaloid one is VOCALOID1000users入り.

Try using other phrases before 1000users (i.e. 初音ミク) and other numbers like 100, 500 and 2000.

Edit: Wrote that from my phone and guessed wrong about what tags were used on Pixiv. 初音ミク1000users入り doesn't exist, but you get the idea anyway. In general Pixiv users apply the tags to what we would call copyrights.

If you want to upload them to the site your best bet is this combined with this userscript for Tampermonkey, which will show which posts are not uploaded.
