Currently all the names are in Japanese so she wouldn't be the only one to need a change. An English → Japanese alias wouldn't hurt though, and it could be the other way around too.

Interesting. What with the new advanced wars game coming up I thought I should request to change it since not everyone coming in would know her by the Japanese name. Never seen any AW players use her JP name either.

Well, we already did it for Pokemon and Fire Emblem, two other Nintendo copyrights. My gut response was to vote yes, but seeing two others (knowledgeable users) voting meh made me reconsider a bit.

Though Advance Wars does has the problem of being far less well known, so maybe some users here might be more familiar with their Japanese names?

And I suppose if the change goes through, somebody has to fix the wikis.

@Unbreakable pretty much votes "Meh" for every occasion. Not really the best indicator :P.

Imo the direction is clear: EN names should take precedent.

If someone wants to make a JP -> EN request for the rest of the characters, then go ahead. We're not even using the Japanese names for the games as it is. The series is called Game Boy Wars Advance in Japan, not Advance Wars, and the first game wasn't released in Japan until three years after it was released in North America.

I still think that it should be aliased in whichever way, so that people that are used to searching for these characters in Japanese won't suddenly stumble upon nothing.

Yes, these should be aliases, not mass updates.

Alright. Agreed on 'renaming' all of the Advance Wars character to their English release names as their primary tags.
(Other than the JP-only releases, though that's a moot point. But might be relevant if there's a fan-patch or internal localization docs, in which case, handle those case by case per series depending on how well known those names are.)

Not via mass updates (or actual renames) though. We'll go with aliases, as evazion mentions.

One thing I'd like to additionally suggest with this move, is to think about the alias of famicom_wars that the copytag has. For all intents and purposes, we're already using Advance Wars as the overarching copytag for the Nintendo Wars series of games, despite the fact that Battalion Wars has posts on Danbooru (if at a far lesser quantity). Though it may be a moot point even if Advance Wars: Days of Ruin is known as "Famicom Wars DS: Lost Light" in Japan (for the same reasons evazion brought up - game literally came out only 5 years later there!), it's still worthwhile to think about.

In hindsight I should have made it a downvote instead because if we are going to change the tags into English we shouldn't just do 1, random character, it should be all or nothing.

Upvote this and then mention it below that there's more that needs to be done.
