I believe we should consolidate the colored shorts tags into the colored pants tags. We don't differentiate colored skirts based on lengths, but yet we do it between pants that go below the knee and pants that go above the knee.
Doing this would also help to emphasize that the shorts tag is for short pants, as opposed to things like boxer shorts, boyshorts, and other similar "short" garments that can just as well have various colors.
black shorts was searched ~1.3k times this week, almost as much as the pants tag itself (~1.7k times).
I don't think it makes sense to lump all these tags together. Normal members have to fill their tag limit just to be able to search for something as basic as black shorts, and we get no benefit because the posts under, for example, black_pants 1girl solo look nothing like black_shorts 1girl solo. One is usually for formal attire or tracksuits, the other for casual posts often focusing on legs.
Another issue is that things like short shorts or even micro shorts for example look nothing like pants.
Technically shorts are indeed just short pants. However, unlike skirts, the two terms for long/short pants are very seperate in the English language. Unless you live in the UK, if you're talking about pants then you're talking about a garment that ends below the knees, often at the ankles. Using color_pants tags for shorts would create a very weird and unnecessarily different nomenclature for us compared to the rest of the English-speaking world.
tl;dr: To most people, shorts are shorts and pants are pants. Calling them both pants is ridiculous.
