When is it a name tag?

Posted under General

I bumped into the ono_daisuke tag and its defined as a name tag, should voice actors be name tags or kept as general? As that's what most tags like hirano_aya, noto_mamiko etc.. are categorized as.

Also, should the names of mecha be changed to 'name' tags, or kept as general? Most Gundams I see are changed to 'name'. So would it apply to other series as well? Just need a double check.

Mechas are usually defined as characters, since they are basically characters of their respective copyrights in and of themselves.

For voice actors, there is no uniform tag type. I usually leave them as general.

EDIT: Looking at it, ono_daisuke is probably a character tag because of the lucky_star variation.

If it's a person I'll generally classify it as "character" even if they are real life people (e.g. barack_obama).

I suppose mecha could also be classified as characters as well. The Evangelions (e.g. eva_00) are done that way, though I'd be somewhat more hesitant though than with real people.

Then there are also things like lance_of_longinus listed as characters, and I have no idea why. I'd have changed it when I noticed except that it's somewhat convenient to have under "related characters". I guess it has a proper name, but I wouldn't have characterized it that way.

I began changing the mecha tags from general to name when a janitor/mod asked me to tag my posts with mecha as characters.

It was probably me, haha. And yeah, I've always thought of that as a good idea. As for seiyuu, I'm not so sure, but hey, it can't hurt, as jxh2154 said.

I really would prefer a tagtype for actual people. Both seiyuu and models aren't really characters, but barring the creation of a "model" tagtype character is fine, be aware that there are a few that are typed to artist.

2 of the images tagged gundam_girl can/could be put under mecha_musume, but the other 2 don't really belong (post #33711 & post #42173).

mecha_musume is really either making girls out of machines (ie personification/Anthropomorphism) or at minimum strapping machine parts onto girls. post #33711 and post #42173 are the opposite, making machines out of girls. I don't think we have a tag that covers that concept, but we could certainly called it something like mechanization if we don't have a term for it.

For such an insignificant number of images manually changing them would be the way to go.

Character typing those seems like the standard. I've seen it with Type Moon stuff, Shugo Chara, PreCure, etc. It's like tagging an alter ego rather than just the costume itself.

Ah, ok. That seems fine to me. There are some chara-nari tags in Shugo Chara that weren't set to character, so I changed them over.

I sorted the gundam_girl ones out as you said.

I don't think there is a tag for the opposite of mecha_musume, I know there are quite a few of these types of images on danbooru but they are just tagged as mecha and/or parody usually. I've gone through a few off the top of my head and tagged them as mechanization.
