Standardizing tags for Jack-o Challenge (and perhaps beyond)

Posted under Tags

With the latest meme tag come up, posts don't seem to follow any specific directive, so I wanted to see if we could decide on what to do (and what -not- to do, of course).

Initial discussion in the Discord with NNT suggested tagging both Jack-o' Valentine and Guilty Gear in the pictures featuring characters from other media doing the famous/infamous pose of the jack-o' challenge.

Additionally, however, some people are tagging specifically Guilty Gear Strive, since Jack-o' getting added via DLC to it is what brought the popularity of her pose back into focus. Should we? If we're adding specific games, should we add instead (as some people do, like with Pokemon) the game where the character first debuted? In this case, it'd be Guilty Gear Xrd.

Or do we skip out on tagging the games and just tag the series? Should we tag Jack-o herself, or not?
When other challenges of the like arise, what is the protocol to follow?

When it's not a specific challenge but just a generic reference (like drawing a character in a JoJo pose), what then?
In the JoJo example, do we tag jojo series, the specific part where the pose happened first, the character which originally did the pose? Do we just tag jojo pose and not do anything else?

EDIT: some spellingz

sugoi dekai is for the most part not tagged uzaki-chan wa asobitai! and the wiki even states so.

In my opinion for a practical reason it would be nice to follow suit with other tangentially related memes to the subject matter such as this one. I presume most people searching for guilty gear don't care for the other gorillion characters doing the funny pose as much as people searching uzaki-chan wa asobitai! don't care to look at the zillion characters wearing the funny shirt.

Even if we want to argue it would be the correcter way to tag it wouldn't produce relevant results and for cataloguing purposes we already have the specific tags ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My initial vote would be that you only need the relevant meme tag if there's a meme tag, but I could support tagging the copyright at most.

The Jack meme tag is already over 100 and still climbing fast. jack-o'_valentine herself has barely over 500. Even among other characters with a less significant ratio, we don't usually tag them. Searching up Guilty Gear, on my screen of 45 per page, is about halfway filled with the meme. THe other half is a recent Millia dump in the last hour. Remove Milia and nearly the whole page is the meme.

apu_spills_his_tendies_(meme) doesn't cause Boy's Club or Pepe the Frog to get tagged on each one, at least not right now.

The wiki actually says don't tag Uzaki Hana, it doesn't say anything about tagging the copyright.

I think, barring possible exceptions, if something is a clear and objective reference to a copyright, that copyright should be tagged. Jojo pose shouldn't tag any specific character if they're not present in the image, but it should still be tagged jojo no kimyou na bouken. Jack-o' challenge should be tagged Guilty Gear but not Jack-o' Valentine.

We would tag any other direct reference this way.

I think that's assuming the thing is intrinsically tied to the copyright, no? The jojo pose is, well, Jojo.

Something like the one I previously mentioned is a meme originating from the dank depths of the internet, not Boy's Club itself. It just so happens the origin of it used the character.

Like I said, barring possible exceptions. Plus, I wouldn't even consider that a direct reference to a copyright, that's just a meme that's become a meme.

I only said this before I realized there was a tag for jack-o' challenge. The character shouldn't be tagged unless they're referencing it beyond that.

As for the copyright, it's debatable and we're not consistent about it. See sailor_moon_redraw_challenge -bishoujo_senshi_sailor_moon, or sugoi_dekai -uzaki-chan_wa_asobitai!.
