Why do Honkai Impact cosplays include the costume name?

Posted under Tags

As far as I know, with most other copyrights, the tag for a cosplay is just "character_name_(cosplay)" and doesn't break down into individual "character_name_(costume_name)_(cosplay)" for each costume. Why is Honkai an exception?

Azur Lane does it as well. It’s the system devised to help users find specific costumes more easily, since using gentags alone isn’t entirely reliable. Given how much gacha games are releasing skins/artwork of different costumes, and game companies are releasing DLC with alternate costumes, AND that it’s only to skyrocket from there, this was the best solution. It’s not perfect, but at least it’s something.

You misunderstood, they were asking about (cosplay) tags, not costume tags.

I think making separate cosplay tags for every constume is completely pointless. Unless a character has hundreds of examples of other characters cosplaying their outfits(Mash), making separate cosplay tags for every costume results in multiple tags with fewer than ten posts, overcomplicating both tagging and searching for no real reason.

Does Honkai need those extraneous cosplay tags? Azur Lane and Arknights don't, they don't anywhere close to enough cosplay posts to warrant it, but I'm not up to date with Honkai's situation.

I agree with Vigil; we should just use base_character_(cosplay) and the costume tag. The only false positives this will incur are when someone is cosplaying another variant of the character while the costumed variant is also present in the post, which we likely have next to zero examples of anyway.

Well, Fate can get away with it cause Fate is complicated, most other copyrights don't have to worry about that. I'm not the most familiar with Honkai, but I know it can be kinda stupid with its lore, too. Are there any examples that might be consolidating the various tags into one less than ideal?

A month in with an apparent impasse and discussion having ground to a halt, I guess I'll just make the request and see how it goes.

There are a few scattered cases where the form is an alternate personality or from an alternate universe and therefore treated as distinct from the original ingame, like bronya_zaychik_(haxxor_bunny) or kiana_kaslana_(herrscher_of_the_void). I'll mark those as implies I guess.

EDIT: Getting a "Can't create implication bronya_zaychik_(haxxor_bunny)_(cosplay) -> bronya_zaychik_(cosplay) ('bronya_zaychik_(haxxor_bunny)_(cosplay)' must have at least 10 posts)" error for Haxxor Bunny. Be skipping that one for now then.
