i think the difference between a hollow and solid 6 pointed star is not really enough for danbooru users to care about
the alternate option is creating a new six-pointed_star tag, then possibly aliasing star_(symbol) to five-pointed_star and also probably making a four-pointed_star tag
i'd rather just not think about geometry when tagging some witch with massive bazonkers casting a spell with a hexagram
also 324 / 2883 pentagrams are also tagged star

I would assume that most of the users who are searching for a shape commonly used as a religious or occult symbol wouldn't be interested in finding stuff like post #5289489 mixed in with their search results.

Not sure what point you're trying to make here. Most of the posts in pentagram star_(symbol) are tagged that way because they contain both symbols, and most of the rest are posts that were mistagged as stars, then had pentagram added by a different user. The number of people using both tags for the same symbol is vanishingly small.
Worth noting that there's also star of david, which users often tag instead of hexagram probably because they don't know the right term for it.
my main point is that this isnt worth something overcomplicating, and that an alias for a more immediately obvious name (six-pointed_star) to a specialized name (hexagram) is worth it
the other option is what i said before, with multiple new tags, with N-pointed_star
being for fully hollow and solid stars, and Ngram
being for the lined versions, with star_(symbol) as a potential catchall
either way, i know im not the only user that cant remember hexagram of the top of my head
