"Get Danbooru Gold" button doesn't work.

Rating doesn't count towards the tag limit. Check the bottom of the search cheat sheet.

Actually, you're right, I'm dumb.

Random does though and so do many metatags. Currently, the only way I can make that work is by messing around with pagination and trying to get a random page instead.

Otherwise I'm heavily limited. If I use Random, I can't mix a specific character with another tag, or a franchise with another tag.

I've had to come up with all these workarounds to make the API do what I want. There has to be a better way than me scrunching multiple API requests in a row, and I just don't have the time to contribute to maybe get a few extra tags available in requests.

If you just want a singular random post, you can hit the random button on the search results page. Considering sampling a random selection of posts would put some strain on the database, it does make sense it would be restricted and not a free tag.

I'm using the API, as I'm loading things into my own interface with controls and whatnot.

Sometimes I want reference images for art/ideation purposes, hence the usage of random.

I don't think the API has that random functionality baked in (I don't see it in the documentation). In some cases, the only way I can get Danbooru to do what I want, is to directly scrape pages, which I'd imagine is far more strain than a single API call.

Say I want 5 random images by using 2 tags. I have to load the random page with the two tags 5 times, then I either scrape the page to get the Original, or get it through the API.

I'm not sure if this should be a separate thread, as having Gold would fix 99% of my problems with the API.

Man this is annoying. I've been checking the upgrade page periodically for almost a year now. Finally found this thread on it, had no idea its been going on for 2+ years.

From skimming this thread if its an issue with PayPal not wanting to do payments for NSFW sites(?), why not just increase the tag limit for free accounts to like 3 or 4 until billing is sorted? So many people want to upgrade, I'm sure if were given 3/4 tags limit and then when this billing is finally sorted, it goes back down to 2, you would still get so many upgrades. Keeping it capped to 2 drives users away from the site and its frustrating becuase this site is great.

^ ditto to @Dante_Spritwalker

Payment system not working? ok i get it systems work bc they work in a certain way, if the site owners wanna give up on it thats up to them.

BUT WHY ARE LIKE 1 in 5 NEW POSTS BLOCKED BEHIND GOLD ACCOUNTS STILL

I want to pay money to get access. If they do it on discord i dont see why they cant just do an under the table thing on paypal via the discord or whatever.

1 in 5? censored tags make up less than 2.5% of the total amount of stuff here. Unless you are actively looking for the kind of stuff normally locked behind gold, you're just seeing things or you happened to check new uploads just as someone uploaded a batch of locked posts

I've mentioned this several times, but as expected nothing has or will ever be done.

And yes: the limit makes searching the site efficiently borderline impossible when you have tags like solo, *girls, absurdres, official_art, pool:*, favgroup:*, and fav:* that are not "free" and so reduce your effective tag count to just 1. Same goes for exclusions, and you can't blacklist e.g. commentary:fanbox or commentary:patreon. You end up not being allowed to narrow down posts enough and have to dig through multiple pages looking for your actual criteria.

Instead, the only option now is apparently to put in multiple full-time work weeks worth of tedious unpaid work, while also hoping your posts are "correct" enough to get approved, in order to maybe eventually get noticed and have someone promote you. It's insane that this is just how things supposedly are now. This is basically the art archival site and the majority of people cannot effectively sort through it.

You can get it in 100 hours or so of effort.

Less if you have a 0% deletion ratio for a few hundred good initial posts.

At first I thought this was a bit ridiculous, but after a while I realized its kind of like a game, then it became fun.

I've said this a few times earlier in the thread, but you don't have to treat it like work to get promoted. Of course if you wanna get promoted Fast then it's gonna take a grind for sure, but you could just as well fix tagging on posts you like as you browse casually, occasionally upload a piece that you came across while browsing social media, you'd eventually get promoted if your uploads aren't certified trash and your tag edits aren't a mess to be cleaned up by someone else, because there's no time limit to get promoted from the moment you start contributing, it would inevitably add up.
Would it take long? Yes, of course. But it means that by just using the site while sprinkling some actions that you personally care about for your own benefit of your own experience on the site as well as others', you can get it.
Even if i was lowkey trying by the time i got promoted, when i started contributing, it was just because i wanted the pics i like to have the correct tags on them to be searchable.

It looks like the best way for me to get gold perks while the payment service is in the shadow realm is to focus on learning Japanese and start working through translation_request...

Just general tag gardening (for example) or uploading also works. No need to play the language gate card... Though it might accelerate it but most people get promo'd without knowing Japanese.

And if you want to start translating but don't have much time to invest learning a new language, you could try learning hiragana and katakana from Tofugu's online quizzes. If you follow their instructions, it should only take a week to learn how to sight-read both. A lot of commentaries and some posts only have character and copyright names, so even knowing just the kana will give you plenty to translate.

+1 on character- and copyright-name-only commentaries, those are very common and easy to translate and verify even for a novice. However I wouldnt expect to be promoted from just them, its a nice contribution regardless.

+1 to commentary TL help. The more help we get, the merrier. Just the sheer volume of stuff to go through means any help is very welcome, and often, when you're doing commentary stuff you noticed other stuff to add (missing translation_request or commentary_request when the commentary is beyond simple words/phrases is the most common example).

I'm doing that as well, let me know if you need any help

How long do you have to contribute to get Builder status?

There isn't really a fixed timeframe to contribute to get Builder status. It really all depends on the quantity and quality of your contributions.
