Danbooru

"Get Danbooru Gold" button doesn't work.

Posted under Bugs & Features

I regret putting off upgrading, since it seems like the option just isn't coming back. The 2 tag limit is frustrating and is why I had dealt with using Gelbooru for so long, and now there's no way around it at all.

Although, with no one able to give money to the site, it's got me wondering how exactly Danbooru is paying for hosting. The storage and bandwidth requirements must be steep.

You can always be manually promoted to one of the higher ranks, allowing you to use more tags. Getting builder status isn't that hard. Outside of that, nonamethanks did just update a whole bunch of people from member to platinum just yesterday for winning some competition or something on Discord; so getting a higher user rank is apparently also possible that way.

One how long does it take to become a builder?
Second some people don't have a lot of time to grind.

According to the wiki, "Make a large number of improvements to the site, such as by uploading, translating, tagging, contributing to forum discussions or anything else that is helpful to other users."

From what I can tell, "a large number" is in the thousands at least. I only really do quick fixes when I notice them, and unfortunately I'm not willing to dedicate hours each day to doing that and more, especially when I'm already terrified of doing something wrong.

I'd rather just fork over $20, honestly.

speaking as someone new, it's rather easy to rack up a couple thousand edits quickly, all it takes is knowing the right tools and what's not being gardened by others

one way would be the fact that the G tag is less than a year old, but there's 17 years worth of posts in the S rating

Depending on your activity, and the quality of said activity (don't expect a promotion if people are regularly having to clean up after you), it can take anywhere from a few months, maybe less, to a year.

My promotion came after about nine months, and the majority of my contributions consisted of forum activity, with just a few hundred tag edits (at the time) and almost no uploads. I wasn't really trying to earn a promotion, so it stands to reason someone who's actually working for it will climb the ladder a lot faster.

It took me 10 months or so of semi-frequently uploading stuff (around 1000 pics or so in total) for me to get builder status. Wasn't aiming to get it, so based on my experience, it really isn't something that you need to grind hard to get.

My advice is dont be scared of doing anything wrong. Working on this site is a community effort. If you do something wrong people will correct you and explain how a tag is suppose to be used. If you put in a general effort to make danbooru better, the mistakes you make along the way are just a drop in the bucket and should be looked at as a learning curve.

Start small and work your way up.

I’ve been trying to do small edits here and there, but I honestly don’t have time to dedicate to achieve thousands of edits to get builder status. I’m an artist who also works 10+ hours a day at my day job. I use danbooru for inspiration, and having the multitag search would be insanely helpful for me. So just being stuck with my only option to be waiting months, while spending some of my insanely limited time editing, just to use a basic site function feels kind of absurd.

The fact that upgrading to Gold has been broken for this long is insane. Are there even admins working on the issue? I’ve never touched crypto in my life but I’d rather do that then be expected to work on the site for months and hope I MIGHT get the account upgrade. Just the fact this has taken so long is absolutely baffling.

This. Despite my fancy purple name, I'm just some random person with my own opinions that don't necessarily reflect the site's/site's staff as a whole. If cryptocurrency is what it takes to get the money flowing, then more power to it.

Lol for what it’s worth I sort of agree with you on crypto, but Bitcoin and ETH are fine (as far as crypto goes, they’re still volatile… and probably Monero too). I don’t really use crypto outside of transactions to buy stuff like a VPN or Usenet subscription.

Anyway, the site staff may want to look into getting in contact with someone that runs a similar site or someone in the Usenet community on how they use crypto for payment processing. I’ve seen a few use Coinbase directly but with how popular this site is I’m sure it’d get smacked down pretty quickly.

An actual payment processor that works with “high risk” clients is going to be annoying to find tbh. Best of luck! I guess I’ll grind in tag cleanup.

I just went to purchase a gold account only to realize it has been unavailable for months now. I guess I'll wait until there's a way to possibly buy a gold account again, but if that ends up being crypto then I'll never own a gold account.

Yep. It still sucks. Like majority of the database can't even be accessed as a normal member due to long loading times, only way to get around that is by being a gold member. I wish at least it was possible to bypass that in any account.

I think the way to access the database you're referring to is described in Help:Cheatsheet

Well I just found out that I can’t get a gold account and that it’s been a whole year since the payment processor dropped them. I’ll just pay for PIXIV and go back to Gelbooru

This also Gelbooru sells merchandise how come Danbooru can't?.

Out of curiosity, what's the issue with CCBill? They don't seem to have anything in their terms to suggest payment for underage adult content warrants cancellation. Is there something I'm unaware of that gives good cause for the owner to distrust CCBill or suspect they might cut this site off, or is that $1k is too high a registration fee given it amounts to 50 gold memberships? If it's the latter issue, could the fee, or a portion of it, possibly be crowdfunded given the current level of dissatisfaction with the lack of payment processing?
