Can I be held legally liable if I upload a copyright protected image and the artist would like to remove the image?

Posted under General

Please send some sort of proof if you can.
I was just wondering the legality of running a site where people may upload images that an artist may no longer want out there or just not want on another site. I do not have an opinion on whether this is a good or bad thing, just wondering the consequences and effects of this. On most other sites, such as YouTube, they try to place copyright infringement on the user who uploaded it, not the site; does this apply here?

If you upload art from banned artists, don’t add the artist tags, and don’t stop doing that when asked to, you’ll probably get banned. That’s the worst we can do to you, though.

Haha, like what? I can write “you’ll be fine” on a coaster and send you a photo of it, if you want.

Sure, you'd be liable. The chances the artist sues you are extremely low, though; it's not a common precedent or anything you should probably be worried about.
