covering, heh, bases given these are all pretty clear from the title name
the covering wiki:
Covering up private areas due to embarrassment or shyness.
and all of the corresponding tags that refer to intimate areas already have the implication except covering nipples
This tag is bad for two reasons. One being any sane person will look at a tag named covering and rightfully assume that it should apply to any form of covering because we have a strange habit of writing wikis completely antithetical to their named tag, and two being... covering what? Self? Another? One's dog? The family boat before the winter season rolls in?
This BUR is bad, but so is the tag.

This BUR is bad, but so is the tag.
That's very true.
In concept it's a useful tag, but it should be renamed to something that's more in line with intended use.
I have a hard time coming up with a decent name though, covering_own_body would needlessly exclude instances where a character's private parts are covered by someone else, shame_covering wouldn't work either for several reasons

I still can't come up with a good replacement name for covering though, any ideas welcome
Covering up popped into my head after a bit of thought. It's a bit clearer than just covering, considering "to cover up" has the exact implications this tag needs. I dunno how good of a name it actually is in practice, but I figured I might as well toss this suggestion out there (as covering is such a bad name, like this thread hasn't already covered in extensive detail).

I don't think covering up really does have the implications necessary, it still can refer to things completely unrelated to one's body; but now i wonder why i didn't think of covering privates earlier

Yeah, covering privates is the much better idea for a name in my opinion. With a name like that, hopefully we won't end up with attempts to implicate, say, covering_face to it again anytime soon. You have my vote if you attempt to fix the covering mess with it.

Okay then let's see how this sounds to others.
Though i gotta admit, after taking a look at covering -covering_breasts -covering_nipples -covering_chest -covering_ass -covering_crotch , seems like the cleaning up would be a very long term thing, and that's not even mentioning the non-insignificant false positives i've seen in covering on it's own, and all the potential additional clean up from the false positives in the implicated covering_x tags that i'm now foreseeing because of it.

A nuke would be a bad idea, both for the reason Bobthebuilder mentioned about covering being misused in place of specific and non-sexual tags like covering mouth , and also because a good half of the results under covering -covering_breasts -covering_nipples -covering_chest -covering_ass -covering_crotch are posts that should have one or several of the relevant sexual "covering_x" tags that are being excluded in that search, so those too would get a lot harder to find and fix.
Now with that said, it would technically work to just deprecate covering instead and still create a separate covering privates tag to be implicated by the others, but that method would just be extra steps for no real benefit that i can see, covering would still need to be progressively cleaned up.
