Is Saved Search that a REALLY important feature?

Posted under Bugs & Features

I don't know how many days this has been happening, but the site always crashes around this time of day.
And Admin said it's because of Saved Search.

I'm not so sure about that.
Do we really need this feature to the detriment of everything else on the site? Is it really that important to us that we should take this frustrating moment for granted, like a schedule that happens once a day instead of once in a while?
This problem is exacerbated by the fact that the day's new artwork overlaps with the most active upload time.

I think that if this saved search thing is what's limiting all the other functionality on the site, then this is the issue that needs to be addressed before any other development schedule right now, and if it's consistently frustrating users, then it's only right to disable it until it's fixed.

I have some and use them on a daily basis to track searches and do tag gardening, but it's not that useful for me. It takes some time for posts to appear and recent posts don't show up, so I usually click on the search query.

The couple times I use saved searches I do this too since having to wait for it to be updated isn't ideal, so for me it just functions like a list of saved tag combinations.

I use Saved Searches a lot. Besides a whole bunch of artists and copyrights that I follow, I currently have 73 saved searches for incorrectly tagged stuff and certain trash uploads. I certainly don’t want to check all of those individually every day.

If saved searches are slow it's a symptom of another problem, not the cause.

You know I'm not talking about saved searches being slow, right?
It's a question about that feature delays and breaks everything else, and how long we have to endure with that inconvenience.

And if this is a symptom of some other issue that we're not aware of, can you tell us exactly what that is?

Saved searches don't break other things. Usually something else breaks saved searches and people blame it on saved searches because they notice it when their saved searches aren't working.

In this case it was because one of the web servers temporarily lost its network connection to one of the image servers. This caused sshfs to hang, which caused uploads running on that machine to hang, which eventually caused all the web server processes on that machine to hang, which caused 1/3 of page loads to hang because they were going to a dead server.

Thank you for your detailed response.
At the conclusion, will we be 'forced' to be in this situation often in the future?

I don't use it, but I can see others may need it.

I can still remember when the site had a marvellous Favourite Artists search, which saved a lot of time and ensured one never missed a valued post...
