Danbooru

Is this website toxic?

If a post got deleted it's a higher chance that it was bad or rule-breaking, which in turn attracts downvotes. Up and downvotes are literally a "I (don't) like this" reaction.

I don’t think Danbooru is more toxic than the average Internet community. The main difference is that we do show negative scores while many (most?) other sites don’t. Some sites don’t even have a downvote button while sites that do, don’t show negative scores. Just look at Youtube comments: Scores of 1 and higher are shown, but when the score is below 1, nothing is shown at all. A comment could be downvoted 1000 times, but you wouldn’t know. The reason is obviously that negative scores might hurt the users’ feelings and the users would want to use the site less, which is unacceptable for commercial site operators, so they don’t show negative scores. Danbooru doesn’t coddle up to you like that. You have to be able to handle other users not liking your comments or other content. Regularly downvoted comments are users trying to be “funny” and hornyposting. A sensible reaction would be to realize that such comments aren’t welcome here and then stop posting them. Instead, I often see such users complaining about the downvotes and continuing with the same kind of comments regardless. I guess the other feel-good sites like Youtube have spoiled them too much.

What place is not toxic anyway? Yeah, there are some fragile people that downvote everything, but if you overreact to something like that even more so to make a thread about, you are falling for the same. Plus showing your opinion through votes is common and is a showcast of free "speech," which is healthy in a community. *Ahem* Take downvotes with a pinch of salt. It isn't always with a hateful intent, so don't take it personal.

Toxicity can be considered a relative term. What seems toxic to one might just be how business is conducted regularly between regular users.

The matter of downvotes is easily written off as either

  • A chunk of users saw this post and decided "no i want this to have a bad reputation." went to it, and clicked downvote
  • A chunk of users utilize the "Show scores" option next to the thumbnail size option, and just click downvote or upvote across the front pages with the stuff they hate or love

I say a chunk, but it took me so long to find where that option was again that I forgot where the rest of this reply was going. Something tells me there's probably at best ten people who know you can do that.

Anywho, most of the time I consider posts with any votes to be justified opinion (Primarily from approvers who weed through every pending post), but there's still on occasion, voting sockpuppets who try to change those numbers in their favor. I think those votes become invalidated after they're banned, though. Meanwhile, approvers are pretty entitled to vote whatever they want on all the pending posts they see. They are looking at everything* after all.

Then you have commenters. You can try to make a joke, and if it flops then that's just poor delivery or poor taste on your part. If you're horny, prepare to be downvoted- Nobody else looking at the post wants to know how hard you nut to Artoria, regardless of how sexualized the depiction is in that post.

Do you have insightful information regarding the circumstances of the image? You might get some upvotes, because someone found that information helpful for one reason or another. For example, discussing the thoughts of the author and viewers from the deleted source of a post. But something like a statistic on viewers of Gundam might not be considered insightful with regards to the post itself. Not unless there's relevant context to compare or contrast with.

Do you think a post is cool? Sexy? Beautiful? Astounding? Awe inspiring enough that you want to comment "Wow! This goes so hard!"? Try not to. Most of the time this is considered spam-y and unnecessary. Those kinds of comments are best reserved for the source of the post, where the author can see and appreciate them.

*most approvers still have their blacklist active while they are looking at the queue, and won't see some posts at all.

I’ve been in this site for over a year and I have discovered that this site has downvote problem, especially deleted posts. Is this site toxic or are people just over reacting?

Have you tried not posting bottom-of-the-barrel terrible horny contents?

User apparently made a sock puppet. This site is more relaxed compared to Gelbooru and R34 in my experience

I definitely second that. Which I credit to the community being way more chill, polite and to the point. Next to no trolling and horny posting.
Just my 2 cents.

In my experience, Danbooru also has better quality control than the other booru sites, which is something I've come to appreciate the more I started contributing. I'm a big fan of how organized the tagging system is, especially the alias/implication system which makes tagging a lot easier. And though I disagree with some posts from Members/Builders being dismissed as "low quality", most of the time the deletions make perfect sense since I often see content on the other boorus that rival my 9 year old self's MS Paint skills.

And the post here is better quality since we have rule. R34 is mostly full of bad quailty hentai and some roleplay perverts

I would not call this website toxic. It's just clinical, and it's better that way. If you want to post about your sexual fantasies or troll, just repost what's here one reddit/4chan/discord or wherever and leave your comments/discussions there.

Ngl. this is a reason why I don't like commenting here as well.
You disagree with something or want to express something, you're either retarded, horny or just batshit insane.

The usage of words had gotten harsher since the past few years.
