question about unapproved pictures

Posted under General

i've recently added some pics, and i kept tracking them on approval

1 of them is now deleted with the text
"This post was deleted. Reason: Unapproved in three days"

is this an automatic system? do i need to re-upload it just in case moderators will see it and approve?

It does say..

"•An image that is not approved within three days is automatically deleted. "

I guess this would mean the mods didnt notice the image?

The picture was fine, the only reason I can think of it that it was photoshopped, but I think that's not much of a problem

---EDIT---

I see the delete appealing topic now, going to try there!

Perhaps the wording isn't the greatest, but basically what happens is the image has 3 days during which several mods and janitors pass their eyes over it. If none of them decide to approve it within that period, it is deemed rejected by the system and thus deleted.

Is probably isn't the best place to ask this but it does relate to the topic. What do you do with all the deleted posts anyway? Do you hold them in a separate server or something? Do you delete the oldest ones to make room for other post, approved or otherwise?

They are held in a limbo state for a while, where they are still available to be seen (uhh...at least by me, dunno if regular users can see them), and then after a year or so they are deleted completely, just leaving a blank entry to show they were there.

It is also possible for us to completely remove a post by deleting it twice, but that is rarely done, I've only ever done it in the case of corrupted uploads, to allow a proper version to be uploaded.

They're kept on the server. When a post is 'deleted' no information is actually deleted, the post is just marked so that it won't show up in searches. This is done so that if someone tries to re-upload a deleted post the site can detect that it is a dupe.

I'm pretty sure the site doesn't purge deleted posts automatically.

No, only the cool kids get that link.

Regular members can still search status:deleted manually.

Is this actually the case? I'm pretty sure deleted posts sit in post purgatory forever unless they are double-deleted. The reason some deleted posts show up with no image and no thumbnail is because they were deleted prior to when the system started holding on to things.

I could be wrong, but there are deleted posts with their content that were posted 4 years ago, so I'm pretty sure this is still the case.

Just feel compelled to point out, the very next bullet point after the one you quoted is:

  • Multiple moderators review every image in the mod queue. If your upload isn't approved after three days it is because it doesn't meet quality standards, not because it went unnoticed.

As for deleted images being purged eventually, I don't think they are, Fence. Or rather, what Shinji said.

Hmm...I've found some deleted images that are missing the actual image that aren't from that far back..but they may have been for other reasons, it can be hard to tell. Could have just been flubbed uploads or something.

Really? I had no idea we had a system like that, and if that's really the case, it's frankly somewhat dumb and totally uncalled for. It's not like the disk storage is danbooru's biggest problems, and I really dislike stumbling upon deleted pictures I can't investigate and/or restore. It's not at all uncommon to undelete pictures from a long time ago, so that's just losing more data than necessary. We can't really do much about the ones that were deleted before the current system of soft deletes was implemented, but other than that, I see no logical reason willingly to instil more pain upon ourselves.

Also, re: deleting-deleting, I use it when an upload was clearly a mistake and I want to keep it from influencing the user's deleted count. As double-deleted posts are completely purged from the system, they don't count against the deleted uploads.

I swore this wasn't the case but I checked a few uploads that I know were deleted post-retention and they're gone.

e: verified on 3dbooru. It's closer to 2 years retention though.

Yeah, I think that there's something to be said for double-deleting unintentional dupes that cause someone to get a "unapproved in three days" deletion. On the other hand if we do that, then I think someone else can still upload the same image. Anyone know for sure on that point?
