[CHAINSAW MAN CHAPTER 198 SPOILERS! PLEASE DO NOT CHECK THIS FORUM IF YOU'RE NOT UP TO DATE] A change in some character tags may be needed

Posted under Tags

So. Recently. With Chainsaw Man Chapter 198 just being released, I feel like we should consider updating some character tags due to a very recent revelation in the aforementioned chapter.

For context. In Chainsaw Man Chapter 198, it is revealed that the character who was believed to be Famine Devil, or "Fami" for short, was actually the Death Devil herself all along. Who was masquerading as her sister Fami by taking her name and acting like her to avoid suspicion so she can secretly follow through with her schemes without attracting attention to herself

By contrast, the character simply called "White Haired Girl", who was initially believed to be Death Devil, was also revealed to be the actual Fami or Famine Devil...

So with this twist and information at hand, I felt like maybe we should update the character tags of fami_(chainsaw_man) and white_haired_girl and replace them with Death Devil and Fami tags respectively. Of course the decision is up to the others but I personally feel like this course of action is necessary

It is a pretty big spoiler, so I agree that it should go in spoilers in the wikis. The fact that the actual Fami's character tag is just a placeholder name makes it a bit complicated though. Are we just going to keep it as white_haired_girl_(chainsaw_man) forever?

Pretty much. The anime hasn't gotten to Reze yet, never mind the reveal of Makima as the Control Devil. Doesn't stop the Manga Spoilers Devil from ruining everything for anime-onlys though.

I don't think we should wait three whole months to revise the tags for these characters. If anything, maybe at most a single month.

For the argument of it would be unfair for anime-only fans: The current state of the anime is in the Reze arc. Fami gets introduced way later on during the second saga of the story. It will take quite awhile for the anime to begin the Academy Saga. Whether or not we wait 3 months from now or not, it would still be "spoilers" to someone. It is unrealistic to keep appropriate name tags "unspoilered" forever. Because even in the future, there would be newer fans who will begin reading and the tagging names would be a spoiler.

I may also add that the other half of Chainsaw Man fans who keep up with the manga and the unfortunate who have been spoiled (due to the shock of the twist and over-reaction), assures me that in no time the twist would be considered old news to most. So why not have the names appropriate for those in the know? It would be silly for some to try and search for Famine posts but get Fami instead. Because at that point, who would search for the placeholder name: white_haired_girl_(chainsaw_man)?

Speaking of which: white_haired_girl_(chainsaw_man) was created as placeholder tag name for the character believed to be the Death Devil. We believed confirmation would come relatively quickly. Of course, nobody would see the spoiler incoming. As mentioned previously: I believe majority of fans would already be aware of their true identities and continuing to keep this placeholder name would be ridiculous. Perhaps something along the lines of famine_devil_(chainsaw_man)? Inspired by the Chainsaw Man Wiki which has duplicate entries for the characters. For example: they have a Wiki for Fami and another one for Death Devil which are the same wikis, except ones contains the spoilers. We could probably do something similar like the example tag I mentioned.

All in all, even if the Fami/Death Devil spoiler is too soon for a rename even after a month, at least the placeholder name for white_haired_girl_(chainsaw_man) We could perhaps also use the already created death_devil_(chainsaw_man) for the newer posts involving Fami and her reveal. Anything is better than just leaving things be until many months and chapters later.

Well, it's been two months now. Manga feels plodding since the reveal, but that's neither here nor there.

I'll suggest this:

dealias famine_devil_(chainsaw_man) -> fami_(chainsaw_man)
alias white_haired_girl_(chainsaw_man) -> famine_devil_(chainsaw_man)

Keep fami_(chainsaw_man) for the "Fami"/Death Devil we've been following all throughout Part 2, and famine_devil_(chainsaw_man) for the actual Fami/Famine Devil. Latecomers might notice a disconnect in the tags, but people keeping up with the manga will know what to do. Plus it wouldn't be a screaming, in-your-face spoiler like it would aliasing fami_(chainsaw_man) -> death_devil_(chainsaw_man) or vice versa.

I can agree with this proposition. Though it would mean death_devil_(chainsaw_man) will mostly be used for previous fan interpretations of how they'd look. Might look odd for the readers who are up to date with the manga who would like to use it for Fami.

What about also using the death_devil_(chainsaw_man) tag for later Fami posts that imply her reveal, such as posts with skulls, are showing her name to be Death in the image or commentary, or her body reveal? (examples: post #9413698, post #9265119, post #9100548, post #9142483)
