Here's an example: there are crapton of posts tagged Umamusume and Original(like 1,350 posts). This is extremely annonying when trying to look up actually original stuff.
My solution: Remove the implication "original_character" -> "original".
"Original_character" means: "original character(OC) from a major franchise". This is how most of the internet uses the term "OC" anyway, so it makes sense.
All these "umamusume + original" posts are instead tagged "umamusume + original_character" and the "original" tag gets removed from them.
Yeah, I already knew this was going to be rejected. But still, look up "genderswap + original". Like, half the posts there aren't original copyright at all, it's freaking annonying!

I think those Umamusme posts are mistags. Even if they are based on a male racehorse so is the main cast and you wouldn't tag them genderswap. I'm no horse expert so I'm not going to remove them, just my two cents.
original copytags:1 gets you "only original from non-copyrights", your proposed usage for original would just make it a replacement for such a simple 2-tag search. Also, original character is not clear at all, people will think it applies to OCs in OC settings too.

Can't you just filter those posts out with original + copytags:1? Edit: Just checked and it looks like copytags isn't on the list of free metatags, just tagcount. So I can understand frustration at having to waste 2 tags filtering like this.

Thanks.
To my understanding, OC/"original character" almost always refers to a character that an artist designed that does not fall under a copyrighted franchise. Basically all uses of the term that I've seen refer to a character that some artist designed themselves and feature in their artwork. Some of them are prominent and have their own reference sheets, commissions, and art done by other artists.
Minah is a character that chaesu designed and draws almost exclusively. Since chaesu is a banned artist, none of the works depicting Minah are by them. The character is still popular, so all the visible posts of her are art done by other artists.
Looking at original solo copytags:>1, there's a mix of "original character with other things from other copyrights" (ex. post #9193233, post #9198919) and "copyright parody", where an original character is placed into a specific universe, typically with some specific motivation. Examples include the umamusume posts with other racehorses, Azur Lane/Kancolle stuff with other ships (ex. uss_midway_(cv-41)_(personification), yamato_(dishwasher1910), uss_lexington_(cv-2)_(personification)), or os-tan. The two concepts seem dividable by asking the question "Can a given copyright be removed from the character in question?" (yes for the mixed scenes, no for os-tan and personified horses/ships set in a specific copyright's universe).
There are already some tags describing the connection of different copyrights within a post, such as scene_reference original, where stuff like post #6953245 has an original character referencing a scene from Akira. Also crossover and parody. I don't know if there is a need to specify when a character has multiple copyrights that apply, but it does seem like that is a case where the current tagging system does not differentiate.

Yeah, I’m surprised he decided to get himself banned on Danbooru. Minah was just the first example that came to my mind in terms of OCs Second thought is 2 egyptian girls by houtengeki
Hmm... How about creating a new tag? Something like: "Franchise_OC" or "unofficial_character", whatever?
Possibly? It would also open up a use case for a tag for canonized characters, i.e. [ak74m_(girls'_frontline)] (the only one I can think of atm but I feel I remember there are a few for GFL and Azur Lane?).
