Any tags for art styles?

Posted under General

I haven't noticed any, but thought I would ask anyways just to be sure.

What I mean by art styles in this context would be purely technical aspects of the image. For example the way the image was colored. My best example would be those "looks like it could be official art" quality images where regardless of the artist the coloring quality is near identical. Others might include colored pencils, watercolor and so on. When it comes to digital painting however there needs to be a distinction between methods used, and this is where I lack the vocabulary.

For example both of these are painted on the computer but there's an obvious difference in methods employed.

With proper tags describing the methods in which the image was created, searching for certain quality of images regardless of artist (especially if you don't know the artist's name yet due to not having stumbled onto any of their work) would be much easier.

So far I've only been able to find these tags for monochrome images.

On a somewhat related note, is there a professional term for the "looks like it could be official art" coloring methods, as seen in my example of post #442268 ? just something that would be nice to put a proper name to, as this is my favorite type of coloring when it comes to anime, and talking to people about it with lacking vocabulary can be frustrating.

There are plenty, at least traditional media (check the wiki article!!) and the medium tags (see the tag search below):

I would be rather cautious about using these. What an artwork looks like on a computer screen is not necessarily what it is in reality. If you have an artist comment or something like that confirming the medium, then it should be fine.

Also, there are some tags for artistic styles such as art_deco and art_nouveau.

Did some research on cel shading and that's exactly it for the most part. Unfortunately only about 10 images show up tagged with this despite the thousands that either are or appear to be cel shaded.

The main reason I was curious about this is that I love those cel shaded quality images. I end up having to search by artist names who use this style due to lack of better tags to find them, which results in not seeing all the great stuff out there.

However,

I would be rather cautious about using these. What an artwork looks like on a computer screen is not necessarily what it is in reality. If you have an artist comment or something like that confirming the medium, then it should be fine.

This makes complete sense. An image may look cel shaded, but the actual methods used may not qualify as cel shading.

I'm now wondering if an "Anime Quality" tag would make sense, for non-official images whose drawing styles (regardless of what they may be) could be considered "looks like it could be official art".

Granted this is just speculation rather than a proposal. The sheer volume of images deserving of this tag would likely require too much work to be considered a realistic goal.

You want pastel_(medium), which is rather underpopulated. Not that I'd necessarily know an image drawn in pastels if I saw it, so I can't help much there.

As for the "looks like official art" stuff... I understand what you're saying but it seems sort of subjective.
