What Is The Prerequisite For Upload Approval?

Posted under General

This is something I have noticed regarding certain images that should otherwise be fine to upload here not being approved within a certain amount of time and thus ending up deleted. Is there a requirement all posts must have, even those that are otherwise perfectly fine to upload, for them to be given the approval of whoever runs this site and allow it to not be deleted?

Posts are approved by the dozens of volunteer Approvers who use this site.

You can read Help:Upload and Upload Rules for general info on what is or isn't allowed. There is a certain standard of quality that must be met but beyond that, it's largely subjective.

Members are able to appeal a post for another chance at approval if they believe it deserves it. If you want feedback for particular posts that didn't get approved, you can use topic #7934.

Beyond concerns of quality and rule abiding, the ultimate deciding factor on whether or not something gets approved is whether or not an Approver wants to approve it. Approvers aren't obligated to review every single post that gets uploaded, they have Blacklists and preferences just like everyone else. Some Approvers are definitely more lax on quality when Approving posts from a copyright they like, while naturally more niche subjects like scat and gore will have a harder time even getting someone to look at them, much less approve them.

The simplest answer is that sometimes the Approvers that saw it just didn't like the post, regardless of it being "fine to upload", or other times an Approver that would have accepted it just wasn't active during its pending period and just never saw it.
