Given this is a sapient humanoid race with numerous named members (Tsukino, Grammeowster Chef, Athos, Nekoht, etc) shouldn't this be a general tag?
I guess it leaves the generic depiction of player palicoes without a character tag, if that matters at all.

Given precedent in cases like this, such as topic #24565 and topic #19866, it probably does.

Palico could always be unaliased snd used for the player palico, though it'd need a note in the wiki to not apply to other characters' Palicoes.

Is a palico necessarily a felyne anyway, can't you make one that looks more like a melynx? I always thought palico was more of a job title than a species, just like monster hunter, so I like this idea.

I don't think there are any qualifiers in the games for that type (just "Felyne") but some people call them "wild Felyne"
I don't think those necessarily need a character tag then, but we could use wild felyne if absolutely necessary.
