The source of post #9954722 says that it's from the same source as post #9458517 (twitter for those who can't see), but if that's the case it wouldn't have been possible to upload it as a duplicate. So I looked at its metadata, and it seems like this direct image link is the actual source, it's detected as a link from Lofter, the uploader may have changed the source manually. I looked at Namie's lofter account and this isn't posted by her. Can someone confirm if this is the source?
As the uploader I did do that yes (it was before I started pasting the links instead of uploading files) but also, if I remember correctly, namie has requested a takedown and so when I put the source as her twitter post, it showed duplicate 1.. but no image.
So I thought nothing of it since sometimes the duplicate is the post itself and posted it anyway, it was my bad, I hadn't seen the takedown notice at the time of posting
Don't manually change the source of a post, especially not third party to first party, unless it's the exact same file (same hash). In cases like this one where you already know the original source, upload a new asset with that source, instead of proceeding with the third-part asset. Third-party sources are rarely identical to the original source because compression and artifacts happen when the file is reposted.
If you find the original source after a third-party version has been posted and you want to know if they are the same file, past the original to the upload page like a normal upload, if there is an existing post with the same hash, the upload page will automatically redirect to it. If not, just upload the original separately and parent them. If the third-party version is a complete duplicate, you can also flag it for deletion.

Are you talking about uploading the twitter post to the upload page? If so, I don't know why it's not redirecting you like I said above. Does it have something to do with Namie's posts being banned?

Yeah, I uploaded the image manually, put down her twitter as the source and refreshed to see if it matched anything. I think because her posts are banned, the image just didn't show up even though it showed a match.

Okay, so it wasn't via the upload page, it's normal that you can't see her banned posts. As I said, changing the source manually is not a good way to find duplicates. Next time, use the upload page, it will automatically merge uploads with the same hash. And preferably, do this before you upload the third-party version, not after, saves you hassles.

Oh no, it was via the upload page. My noob technique was upload image > put source manually > refresh to see if anything matches the source I put down (while still in the upload page). In the "source" tab, it showed one duplicate (or close match? not sure), and where said duplicate image would normally be, there was nothing.
Edit: By refresh, what I mean is I would click "upload" without selecting any rating. It would give an error and refresh the info.

But you're probably right, I surely edited it later and forgot, otherwise it couldn't have been posted..

It doesn't work. For what I said to work, you need to upload the desired source directly via the upload page, not upload the direct image link and then change the source manually, because the direct image link you uploaded is from a different source, the image doesn't match your desired source. If your image matches your source, it would have triggered the asset merge even if you uploaded from a direct image link (in this case, the direct image link of the twitter source). Note that this doesn't mean uploading from direct image links is encouraged.

Yes, my bad.. I used the refresh thingy to check for existing artists, not duplicates.. But now I use source links when uploading instead of submitting a file so that doesn't happen anymore. I get it now..
