I think there's both pros and cons to the prospect of tagging comic arcs, one that transcends IDW!Transformers and connects to the broader discussion surrounding comic char- and copytagging; topic #32808. This also sort of relates to your topic #34408.

On the one hand, if we were to use comic arcs or comic runs (or even comic periods/eras), that reduces the need to specifically create a chartag for a given character if there's something unique about them within that specific comic thing. But if it's a particularly important arc/run/period, one that ends up influencing the comic from then on, then it ends up becoming incredibly redundant and you'd just have a extra copytag which doesn't really help you find a specific thing sooner. It's part of why I did forum #337143 for Power Rangers (Boom! Studios) - a lot of folks are aware of Shattered Grid, and it's iconic, but having a specific tag for it would be worthless as it'd just be tagged on anything related to Lord Drakkon, who becomes a reoccuring figure after that event and only dies 6 years after it had happened.

On the other, if we don't have good copytag substitutes, it inspires the creation of chartags unless someone steps in and tells both sides to shut the fuck up and not make either kind of tag. In Transformers' case, we already have a bunch of chartags, including for IDW... because godgun made them all without consulting with everyone. Like, seriously, is Megatron (IDW) necessary when we have the the_transformers_(idw) megatron? When I cleaned up Power Rangers, including everything godgun and users of a similar disposition had forced upon it, I brought in the site-wide standards (while also formally creating new ones per the PR thread), so Transformers might end up needing a similar clean-up. Then we could discuss the possibility of giving characters costume tags based on specific designs from certain arcs.
