I've been wondering for a while now:
When can we upgrade to Gold?
I've found a thread from 3 years ago saying that it is a problem with the payment provider and so it is planned to move to a different one but it's been a while and I've been wondering if there is any other way to get the upgrade?

it's still not possible to get a gold account, only way to get to a higher user level is to contribute and get promoted to builder, or try your luck in the raffle
Payment processors keep getting pressured by lobbyist groups to not support certain kinds of content porn, which is why Patreon stopped having sex workers on their platform, why onlyfans attempted to remove sex workers from their platform, and why Itch.io and Steam recently had thousands of titles delisted from their storefronts. This has been going on for years now, even before danbooru. Canary in the coal mine or whatever.
