Tag Discussion: moe moe kyun!

What is / should be the intended usage of moe_moe_kyun!? The wiki page explains it's a scene from K-on!, which is correct, but doesn't explain in any way when it's applicable. From what I've seen, it's randomly used for any heart_hands posts, even ones that don't reference K-on! in any way, essentially making it an ill-defined and unsupported alias.

So, what should the standard of usage be? Are there any visual criteria that would make it relevant other than a clear K-on! reference?

The best way I can think of it is the specific pose shown in that particular scene - shoulder-width stance, torso turned to one side a bit, heart hands held off-center. Looking away seems to be optional. If the character is speaking, they'll be saying the "Moe Moe Kyun!" line.

Looking at it briefly, it probably needs to be cleaned up a bit.

Not all heart_hands are moe_moe_kyun!

Specifically, the orientation of the hands is fairly unique.

This. moe_moe_kyun! is basically a reversed heart_hands for me. That's how I tend to tag them anyway.

post #616662 should clearly be heart_hands instead of /mmk (which would make a neat shortcut).

While we're at it, can anyone think of a reason for moe_moe_kyun! to NOT implicate heart_hands?

There are a few moe_moe_kyun! posts that don't have heart_hands, such as post #446044 or post #445954.

post #566537 just says moe moe kyun, and her fingers are barely in the shape of a heart.

One particular users seems confused as to what MMQ means, and just tagged some heart hand images with MMQ. Perhaps the wiki needs more detail?

The same reason Akiyama Mio doesn't imply k-on!. We typically don't implicate characters and the like to their series.

Linking to a good Mio image (there is also a moving gif) with the pose should be in the wiki too, and that sometime the pose will show heart hands with the thumbs at the top and fingers at the bottom.

That's why I added "...and the like".

I don't think it's enough to try to list criteria by which a post is /mmk, be it heart hands combined with a maid costume, a heart explosion, the unique reversed fingers style or even the position of the hands relative to the body.

Really, any two elements aside from heart hands which specifically mimics the fantasy transformation sequence as seen in post #449166 should qualify a post (excepting pics where the phrase is written). Familiarity with the subject is the only cure.
