+1 Precure
previously discussed in forum #36506 and forum #22233
+1 pretty_cure both for consistency and for the fact that "PreCure" appears to be simply an abbreviation for the former.
I still think "precure" sounds better, and still support having that as the canonical rendition of プリキュア. Whether it's an abbreviation is only slightly related, it wouldn't be the first word created by melding other words.
To me "Pretty Cure" is more aesthetic. Besides the point though, we have precedent for using official English versions of titles when they exist and are provided alongside the original Japanese (e.g. Spice and Wolf).
Obviously portmanteau and blends and even nonsensical processes can be used in making names (Such as truncating and misromanizing "Rebecca" as Revy, or spelling "Karen" as Kallen).
When they do use things as these, and that's obviously their full intent, we use it. In those sorts of cases though we aren't given a good official alternative or canonical explanation for the abbreviated name, which we have here.

That was very, very clearly stated to be an absolute exception, not to mention it's not at all official. I happen to have the first ranobe of 狼と香辛料 on my shelf, and the only bit of English on it says "Merchant meats spicy wolf". Not exactly what I imagined the series to be about, but there you have it.
As for intents, "pretty" is quite well rendered as プリティ, not プリ. So it's a portmanteau. Just because Japanese have a tendency to do it doesn't mean anything, we're going after the original after all. So if they make mashups, so do we.
Well, as long as we use pokemon instead of pocket_monsters (where the latter is actually the official title in Japan), I guess pretty_cure is out of the question.
In before jxh2154 complains about all the aliases he has to reverse.
Pokemon is actually an interesting case. It'd make sense to reverse to pocket_monsters for consistency, but given the sheer volume of the work that'd entail, as well as the incredibly entrenched position the title has in the English-speaking world, I'd say it's a good candidate for an exception. If we could do it for spice_and_wolf, we should do it all the more for pokemon, which is some 100x more known.
I still have second thoughts about the latter, but I could probably live with pokemon.
Getting back on topic, I guess even though we know what it's standing for, we go with precure instead? Exactly how big is this franchise? So far it seems the full "Pretty Cure" only appeared in the title of one "version" (season? series?).
You can go pokemon -> pocket_monsters all you want ...exactly one day after I stop being admin (or the day you convince albert to do it instead).
Right, about precure... I think I mostly went with pretty_cure last time because that was consistent with the other existing tags. Based on the original title I prefer precure, but in a "in truth I don't think it matters either way" kinda way.
I'll switch them to precure but if so, it'd going to be permanent, so I want to make sure nobody has any massive and reasonable objections first.
To comment on the "pokemon" aside, the Japanese title seems to use a singular "monster", though I wouldn't put it past them to've simply dropped the equivalent "-s" noise out of some kind of convenience, so finding consensus, let alone an official stance, only whether it's "monster" or "monsters" would make replacing pokemon a hassle.
EDIT: DISREGARD THAT. In at least two places the plural is used: the card game and one of the manga (at least if I'm seeing an "S" on that tiny shot of its cover). So, that'd be the side to err on.

Alright, I am having the worst time trying to get these to go through.
When I aliased futari_wa_pretty_cure to futari_wa_precure (for like, the 4th time..) it added about 600 posts to fresh_pretty_cure!'s post count, though I don't think it actually added the tag. But that makes no sense, because that's aliased to fresh_precure!.
Also, I manually tagged an image fresh_precure! and futari_wa_precure and when I submitted, all I saw were the old tags.
And more little issues like this.
Anyway, expect to see strange things. If it's not sorted out in a few days, bump this and I'll try to submit them again.
It's just some of the userbase maybe? A dozen edits were made to post #668027 since it was upped just an hour ago. I make one edit, and futari_wa_pretty_cure is added.
