I just came across the tag Hybrid_Animation, and it seems like it's just still images that were made into gifs. A couple of them, like post #638515, are just flashes that have been captured as a gif. Do we really need this tag?

Gif artifacts, basically. When done poorly it shows up as a very noticeable pattern of speckled colors or graininess. It's especially bad in post #638515.

Yeah.......what is dithering again? Is that like jpeg and gif artifacts.
Dithering is what you get when you reduce an image down to 256 colours, which is all that the GIF format supports. Any colours in the original image that don't exist in those 256 are simulated by blending colours in a checkerboard-ish pattern.
After seeing one of the animations in the VN I'm currently playing reduced to a GIF, I think doing this to an image should be a criminal offense.

Just rip it as a flash, and preserve the quality. the filesize shouldn't be too much bigger than a gif.
I actually did rip a couple of the animations, but rather than using flash, I made them into animated PNG files. I don't know what kind of quality loss using flash would involve, but APNGs are lossless, and the ones I made came out looking exactly the same as they do in the game.
That said, I don't know if APNGs in general are welcome or even allowed here. The couple that I posted ended up being deleted, and there weren't any on the site previously, so I have to wonder if the format was the reason...
Since the scene is already in flash form, if you rip it from the full file, and keep it in the same format, nothing really should be lost. If you want to try, see if you can do a better version of post #638515.

post #754808, lossless version of post #638515, created directly from the game itself.

It's an unofficial format that is only supported in a few web browsers, can find more info on the wiki animated png.
