Tag discussion: bare legs

Posted under General

The bare legs tag has no wiki, and its usage seems to be a little scattershot right now. The most intuitive usage I see is similar to things like no glasses, where characters that have a base outfit where they always wear pantyhose or thighhighs (e.g. Akemi Homura, Hirasawa Yui, Toosaka Rin) are without their usual legwear. Examples: post #878623, post #690099, post #809665

I'm not sure if outfits like swimsuits or lingerie should be included in that definition, though. My first instinct is not to include them, though debate is welcome.

Well, we need to decide just what qualifies for bare legs.

Are socks ok? How about shoes and socks? Or just shoes with no socks? Or must they also have bare feet?

I do think the tag is most useful as a way of sorting out images for characters where bare legs (when they aren't just naked, of course) is an unusual situation. Akemi Homura being a particularly good example.

Yes if we want to use this it should be analogous to no glasses and no hat; tagging when there is a reasonable expectation of something that is not there.

Hosiery is probably the line to draw because otherwise you'll probably just be using barefoot.

IMHO, legs with nothing on them with the exception of possible low shoes and socks would be a good definition, and consistent with what is generally understood by "bare legs".

It's reasonable to look for bare feet, I don't see why it'd be unreasonable to look for bare legs. If we want a tag for an unexpected lack of legwear, we should have no_legwear or something consistent with other no_x tags.

Uhh? It's legs with no clothing on them, just like barefoot or bare_shoulders. Why'd you want to kill it?

I'd just assumed that because it could be so broadly interpreted even if we had a definition people would just not read the wiki, assume what it meant, and then mistag it. Alot. However I've remembered that only like 1000 people, most of whom would probably read the wiki, actually do stuff around here. So it wouldn't actually be a problem.

More on topic though. For bare_legs, to what length would shorts and skirts count? Also would this be applicable when wearing swimsuits, or just needlessly redundant?

I'd say short skirts and shorts count with no problems; I'd stop tagging it somewhere past the knee (although probably not for spandex and other tight-fitting garments). As for swimsuits, yes, tag it, just like we still tag barefoot in this case. It's about being able to find things.
