I know this will seem ridiculous, but could it alias :/ -> :\? Despite it being the (slightly) more awkward one to type, it seems more "correct (given that it slants toward the way many emoticons would turn to be upright), and " coincides with "http://", though that's probably just a poor implication* for me.

I've never seen :\ being used, only :/, probably because, as you said, it's easier to type. Aliasing it the other way around seems wrong, then.

I'd rather leave it as is - they seem completely synonymous to me.
