"Japanese" Tag

Is there really a point to the japanese tag? The nature of Danbooru would imply that most things are Japanese unless otherwise mentioned.

It has very limited use, but a few legitimate uses, which should probably be outlined in the wiki description. Ranguage is the only one I can think of off the top of my head but I'm sure there's others.

Most likely it would be deliberately used to indicate a strong presence of Japanese text. The tag itself also catches typos like "japanese clothes" instead of "japanese_clothes", so we can't really alias it to anything else.

Characters attending Japanese classes, maybe?

Or, perhaps, relatively useful material for learning Japanese, like post #6188.

Would it be a good idea then to go through all the posts with the tag and remove it? Except for those that have the tag for a reason, of course.

Yes, soon after deciding exactly what are the reasons for having that tag.

I thought it was used for the few non-japanese comics hard translated into japanese that we have, but apparently they're not tagged that way.

I know we've also explicitly mentioned using Japanese ranguage in the past for inexpertly and ungrammatical Japanese (like Engrish but backwards).

We might want to make an individual tag for that, like "Wapanese" or something.

There is nihawngo.

But, recently, it became an alias to ranguage.

I was using the japanese tag with the character name and title drop tags if the name/title was written in Japanese. But in hindsight, that doesn't seem necessary.
