Higher-res version of an image already uploaded. I would have presumed that in cases like this it would get accepted almost by default.

You have to set superior images as the parent to the inferior version. Otherwise it will look like you uploaded an inferior duplicate.

What looks like AI-Generated is only the background.
It has no real source. Where did you get it? I can't tell that it's not a paid reward.
Yes, as you can see, many similar artworks uploaded to here have no real source. For exmaple, masami_chie non-web_source,
kaede_(sayappa) non-web_source, etc. Among these tag search combinations results, some were firstly uploaded to other sites like yande.re and others were firstly uploaded to here. I just follow the default upload behavior. I didn't upload posts from artists' paywall like Fanbox, Patreon, Fantia, etc.
Of course your decisions and those of the approvers are important. I will try to follow the site's upload rules.
