Fixing pool deletions, part 2

Posted under General

From the Pointless Pools thread:

I kinda gave up after the stupid changes Albert made to how pools work and refused to fix it, only admins can delete pools now. I'm not sure what active does now and that's the only checkbox I've got anymore.

Currently there's a backlog of pools that have gone undeleted that stretches for months, and it only gets larger everyday. jxh2154 can't be expected to keep up with that thread, so unless Janitors and Mods are allowed to delete pools, any further posting in forum #12295 is futile.

If it's about possible vandalism hiding pools instead of irretrievably deleting them (similar to deleting posts) might be something to consider. Pool deletion could then be opened to a larger group to take some pressure off the mods.
Allowing pool creators to delete their own new pools for let's say a day to get rid of accidentally created pools would reduce the workload as well.

The biggest problem with that thread is that so many of them end up being judgment calls as people debate whether a pool is truly "pointless" or not.

I mean if it's just straight up spam (a pool called "online poker designer handbag russian brides!") then it's easy enough but most of the time pools are being made by people who really think they're collecting some important theme, and some people agree, and others don't, and it just becomes such a huge time sink to deal with it.

Extending pool deletion ability to Janitor rank would address that pretty effectively, wouldn't it? You'd greatly increase the amount of people to divide the workload with.

Yes, but it's still a communal time-sink. In fact, at the moment, the mods need only check it once a week, delete the pools with resolved discussions (although I'm simplifying here). Point is, it's still time and effort not uploading good images; tagging; maintaining the wiki, aliases and implications; or working through the mod que.

Personally, I like the idea of returning pools to only being for comics/sequential images and dumping all the pseudo-tag and collection pools into a 5th tag colour, like yellow. Options to hide yellow tags, members can't turn tags yellow and such details could help, but AFAIK they'd need attention from albert, so would have to wait.

Log used to handle everything on his own pretty well before the changes, so I don't think it's really a matter of workload.

The only potential problem is someone making a wrong judgment call and deleting a pool that the consensus doesn't find pointless, but that can easily be fixed by making pool deletions similar to post deletions, like Schrobby suggested.

That doesn't sound bad, but I think it'd be better if we had a Pools sub-menu between the Tags list and Statistics or something instead of lumping them together with regular tags.

Pools are like posts now, and can be undeleted.
