Flagged this earlier because of poor image quality (especially the ugly aliasing) and because it's a western style image of an american cartoon by a western artist.
The flag was removed by a mod who claimed that the reason it was flagged was because it's a MLP picture, which seems pretty odd since I never claimed that.

Can an impartial mod who is not a brony take a look at it?

I'm not quite sure how this got approved, but it's certainly not good art by a longshot. Arms, hands, legs, face, neck, ears... Its only merit is that it's touhou porn, and even that isn't much of a merit. (but it wouldn't be the only post that's here solely because it's touhou porn)

Edit: in the same boat, post #1007332

It looks fine to me.

How can you say that when it's clearly not anime-style art? (And please I'm no FiM hater.)

Not_One_Of_Us has the lowest quality standards among approvers. If he wasn't here you would see the uploaders ask in the feedback thread why their posts weren't approved and get answered it's shit / not danbooru quality for X or Y. But since they're approved now it's taboo somehow.
I tried flagging one lately but these tend to get reapproved because janitors don't like when you flag stuff that isn't outrageously bad, even when they obviously wouldn't approve it if the border was blue instead of red. I'd assume this is because the small amount of flagged posts gives them a much longer attention span.

Apollyon might have approved it because he was the uploader of the parent. Being a derivative is possibly a valid reason to approve an otherwise borderline post (when you find the comparison interesting in some way), but yeah post #1007332 really doesn't look good enough on its own.

Because I don't respect "the anime style" as an actual thing that exists. Therefor it's pretty hard sometimes for me to discern what is and isn't appropriate based on that metric. I'm not trying to be snippy here by the by, this is entirely true.

Is this a common opinion? If nobody minds me asking, why is he a janitor if this is the case?

It's my opinion. But it's not difficult to compare what each janitor+ approves (or posts) and figure out where are everyone's standards.
As to why he was okay'ed as a janitor you'd need to ask albert. Personally I have the feeling it's still the same thing as in forum #64209.

Well plenty of people here, approvers included, are able to make the disctinction. So I hope this eventually gets flagged again and deleted because moderation is the loser of this one shitstorm and didn't deserve to have its way.

Not commenting on everything said here, but here's my honest opinion on post #1007970:

It's not something I'd approve myself, but it's not low enough quality to warrant flagging. The copyright isn't anime-based, but the style actually is (if you think about, it a large number of western cartoons lately have been using an anime style, and the style itself is rather broad). As for the "the ugly aliasing", see oekaki or pixel_art. The blocky pixelized aesthetic is actually a plus for many. I for one rather like it in a lot of posts.

The only thing I could potentially see flagging it for is for having a western topic (which isn't in itself enough), or for the sort of bad body proportions, especially on the right two characters (again though, they aren't really bad enough to normally warrant flagging).

You may not like the post, and complain of moderators with lax standards, but if you look at it impartially, there really aren't many good reasons to dismiss that post aside from personal aesthetics.

I'm annoyed to have to be the one bitching about this picture because I actually like it, but, goddamn:

Rarity the 4th one is freaking Megara from Disney's Hercules, with the others being pretty similar. So Disney has been making anime since the 90s. Danbooru's scope got larger all of a sudden.
There are a few more aesthetical differences between western and eastern art overall than merely the size of the eyes.

And what jjj14 said.

All that said, Hazuki wouldn't have approved those jeg artifacts if it weren't Ponies. He's taken defense of Ponies up as his new cause, it seems. Given the other image I had to intervene on, I'm not sure I like this development.

Today I link an artist:

Much of this work resembles the poorly drawn beginnings of "Western anime artists", the sort you'd find on deviantART and the like (unfortunately I have little experience with "bad Japanese art" so this is the best I can say). There's the occasional "concave right cheek" that I'm not sure how to describe.

post #167196 seems to be fairly different and could be kept. It might be a derivative work of some sort.

Holy crud, a lot of those are bad. You should probably start going through them and flagging whatever looks off to you.
