Danbooru

New downloader script!

Posted under General

Hey everyone. I have been actively working on a python script to batch download images on danbooru using the danbooru API. It's still in early stages and only supports tags (no pools yet), but I'll add that later.

I started writing my own because all of the other download programs or scripts out there are no longer maintained or just simply don't work!

Let me know if you have any suggestions.

You can get the script on Github:
https://github.com/rcdailey/anibooru

Decided to give this a try. However, I get an error:

Searching with tags: ['akemi_homura', 'rating:s']
NOTICE: If there are a lot of search results, this will take a while...

ERROR: Downloading was canceled or failed, aborting script...

I run using windows command prompt:

py anibooru.py -u thebackup -k my_api_key -d c:\test -m 10 akemi_homura rating:s

Am I missing something? I'm not really well-versed in python.

He's not hijacking anything, he's informing both you and other people who want choice that "all of the other download programs or scripts out there are no longer maintained or just simply don't work" isn't actually the case.

That's not the point of my thread though. I explained the motivation for why I wrote my own, I am not encouraging distractions. Not sure who you are trying to fool. This thread is about MY script, not all of the other scripts out there. If we get into the discussion of other ones then it'll be difficult to have productive conversations here. Please keep this topic on track.

This isn't advertising, my script is not a product. This isn't a competition, nothing competitive about providing an open source tool.

I am spreading information and most of all being helpful to the community by providing a tool that I wrote using my free time. Furthermore, to keep both this thread and the tool helpful and focused, I simply do not advise off-topic discussion. Such a request does not interfere with those community goals.

However, I see how many people on this forum just don't care or lack appreciation for my efforts, since all that has been happening so far is either off topic discussion or argumentative responses. I won't be visiting this thread anymore, since this is quite frankly a waste of my time. I never expected any gratitude for what I have offered here, but I certainly didn't want this kind of negative feedback either from selfish and arrogant people.

I hope that some folks can enjoy my script. Goodbye.

I've tried your script again and it works, thanks.

I mean no insult to you, but the more experienced users are just giving friendly reminders, they're not accusing you of competing and advertising. And for the record such reminders can happen in other threads too; they have no intention to insult you.

On the other hand, people just checking this thread shows that they DO care. Even if you don't get the responses you've wanted, your contributions are certainly more than welcome here.
