Tag implications: dirigible

Posted under Tags

Resurrecting this in order to object to it.

  • Distinguishing between blimps, zeppelins and dirigibles is, IMHO, an unnecessary level of detail.
  • Unless it's uninflated, telling whether an airship is rigid or not from a picture alone is difficult without relying on outside information (e.g. it's the Goodyear blimp or the Hindenburg).
  • Whether something is called a blimp, zeppelin, or dirigible, I think, has strong dialect/regional variation.
  • If both blimp and zeppelin are kept, the dirigible tag is redundant, as logically every dirigible must be either a blimp or a zeppelin.

Updated

BUR #2018 has been approved by @NWF_Renim.

remove implication blimp -> dirigible
remove implication zeppelin -> dirigible
create alias blimp -> dirigible
create alias zeppelin -> dirigible

Reason: I second this. This distinction between rigid and nonrigid airships is difficult to tag and it's not very important for our purposes. Taggers often get it wrong and even if you know the difference, it's often not easy to tell which tag is the right one.
