As many know, big ben is the bell inside the tower, but is commonly used by people to refer to the tower itself. On danbooru, the tag is used exclusively for the tower. The tower was previously known just as "clock tower", which was quite ambiguous, but with the tower renamed, I think we can safely alias.

Uh-uh, I don't know anyone who calls it "the elizabeth tower". People call it big ben, we should tag it big ben. Anything else would be being pedantic.

It has been renamed 1 year ago, so of course you don't know many people who call it that way.
Big Ben is just wrong.

And we use quite a few tag names that nobody ever says IRL, such as contrapposto and irrumatio even though there are other colloquial terms for them.

The Elizabeth Tower was completed in 1859 and the Great Clock started on 31 May, with the Great Bell's strikes heard for the first time on 11 July and the quarter bells first chimed on 7 September.

The UK Parliament's official website does acknowledge Big Ben as commonly being used to referr to the whole thing, so it isn't "wrong." Anyways, no issue with aliasing the common name to the official name.
