This is referencing the North High Festival chapter in volume 4 of Suzumiya Haruhi-chan no Yuuutsu.
Kyon and Haruhi are going around the festival and stop by Nagato's class where they're doing fortune telling. Nagato predicts their future indicating that they're going to go to Asahina's class and then after that they're going to go to Koizumi's class. When they enter Koizumi's class a "Welcome Couples" event will be commencing and Koizumi will force both Haruhi and Kyon on stage as a couple. Given the previous trauma Kyon and Haruhi experienced when they were forced to act as a dating couple for a day in a punishment game earlier in the series, it throws them in a panic that they'll have to relive that experience. So in the end they both skip going to Koizumi's class to prevent it from happening. The chapter ends with Koizumi waiting for them to show up so he could spring this event on them.

I wonder if I should get that series... I watched the animated web shorts, but I've never read the originals. Has that series ended, or is it still ongoing?
Looking on wikipedia and such, they indicate that the series is still on-going with 6 volumes out. There are currently 5 volumes published in the US by Yen Press, with the 6th volume to be published November 20th.
Well, most people only saw the anime (which made the thing explode in popularity), and the second season's DISASTROUS Endless Eight (which apparently had half the studio resign in disgust) kind of killed that, although the movie version of Disappearance was released.
The original light novel series, however, has 11 books out and counting, and there's a manga of the novels that also is still ongoing.
The fifth of the novels is supposed to be translated and out now... I should check Barnes and Noble later...

I wouldn't know, but it does take up an entire Blu-ray and part of another Blu-ray in the complete S1+2 box set. At minimum, that's a horrible waste of space for what is just one episode more or less repeated. I would have wished they'd stuck to the original novel version of the story.
Nagato-san, Koizumi-kun seems somehow depressed. That is due to Haruhi Suzumiya et al. not coming to his class to participate.Kyon-kun and Suzumiya-san just didn't have time, so that's why they didn't come see you. Please cheer up.
