Believe it or not, a lot of Thompsons looked like that. Probably the artist just didn't notice the tiny connection point, unless that dark spot is supposed to be it.

I think the dark spot is it, considering Kyouko's right foot/leg appears to be missing right in that area, I'd imagine it isn't the back of her shoe or anything.
