Here it is - my winning entry for Udon Entertainment's Mega Man Tribute contest!

This is my favorite of my two entries as I believe the overall quality is significantly higher. The secret was that after finishing the first entry, I realized a number of mistakes that I did my best not to repeat them here.

About the artwork, the concept is simple - Mega Man characters in a sort of 80s band. I'm really into Jazz Fusion, so I gave Protoman, or more appropriately Blues, a saxophone. I'm no musician so I'm not even sure if I gave him the right sax for the job. Rock got a guitar, of which I used K-ON as a reference (I freakin hate K-ON too). For Roll, I used the original designs for Roll as references.

My "redesigns" for the characters where kinda risky as I was concerned that I may have strayed too far from the character designs. I wasn't a big fan of Michael Bay's Transformers as the characters where unrecognizable outside their color schemes, but I did just that in this artwork. Oh the hypocrisy!

Anyway, I encourage all of you to get the Mega Man Tribute Artbook debuting at this year's San Diego Comic Con. I'm planning to go to grab my copy early and am hoping to get a couple of the artworks signed by the artists who will be there.

Now I'm not sure what sort of Tribute contest they'll have next time, but I'm hoping it's a Capcom All-Stars one.
