The constant yuri discussions that run rampant with this series makes me wonder if stuff like this is feeding into subtext or not.

Their faces are really close, but it could still be seen as a sign of support, considering what both characters go through.

I wish Madoka fans would realize it's better to look at heartwarming signs of affection like this without constantly wondering if they're moments away from confessing their love or some nonsense.

You know that's how people think in every series, right?

True, but the Madoka fans are noticeably more...vocal...about it. If I were to link this picture right now, there would be a lot of rage over it being "non-canon fanwank" that ruins the OTPs of the series.

Which, in itself, is an ironic statement.

That's why I find it much easier to just think of all the characters as really good friends that support each other. Adding romantic implications only result in silly arguments like the one above.

Does this really still bother people? Look at Hidamari Sketch or Lucky star or ANY 4 girl highschool slice of life show. Hidamari Sketch being one of the most feel good sugar inducing slice of life series I've ever seen.

If the cast is predominantly female, then there will be Yuri fanworks. No exceptions.

That is rather prevalent with the Magical Girl genre to begin with, particularly with the popular shows. Like it or not, the genre gathers yuri fan's like moths to a flame. With that comes an understanding that any subtext will be discussed with some manner of... intensity.

I wish Madoka fans would realize it's better to look at heartwarming signs of affection like this without constantly wondering if they're moments away from confessing their love or some nonsense.

I can only really speak for myself as a fan of the series. But that is something that I don't look into. No really point unless it adds something to the story and in most cases... it doesn't since it's just fan's being fans. It means very little unless that is something that comes out of the staff around PM3.

I would not go that far, this has been rather mild honestly. At least when compared to other titles in the genre. And given what the show was, I highly doubt that there is a OTP...

The best way to look at it, but keep in mind that Tesamaru point it rather valid. "If the cast is predominantly female, then there will be Yuri fanworks. No exceptions."
You want to see bad shipping derailment, look up Sailor Moon or Card Captor Sakura.

I would not get too work up about it unless there is a rather disproportionate number of yuri-lemons or porn. Then you have a problem.

    Why is it better?

I understand your preoccupation with the most stupid brand of shippers complaining about what's "canon" (oh, haha) and bitching at other people's favorite pairings, but, seriously, claiming that there is a "correct" or "better" way to enjoy a piece of fiction is almost just as bad, IMHO.

It's okay if yuri fans enjoy their yuri in a show that (lets be honest here) is brimming with subtext.

Enjoying heartwarming platonic relationships isn't anymore valid than enjoying romantic ones. It's just a matter of taste.

On a side note, I honestly haven't seen that many stupid shippers in the Madoka fandom. Everyone seems pretty laid-back with who the girls are paired with (excluding poor Kyousuke, of course). Then again, I've just joined this fandom not too long ago, so I wouldn't really know.

tl;dr: let people like whatever they want. It's not that hard.
