Before trans : did Yamame actually doesn't do any mistakes that exceed Kogasa expectations?

B4 trans: I guess Yamame was on time (for once), but Kogasa stopped several times (to eat) and was late.

Now you shall know Yamame's pain when she was actually trying to be on time.

I underestimated the string of holidays. It's always at the crucial moment. :-) Naturally, we got in touch, so there wasn't a problem!

I figure we lost out because I slept for about two hours en route. It couldn't possibly be because I ate 'til I dropped at the service areas!

While I was sleeping, Tani Takeshi-san pulled a God Eater Burst-type move. :-)

Reader-added tags include "Yer gettin' on my last nerve, Mizz Yamame", "I want to punch that smile" and "Yamame strikes back".

The survey decides to suck it up:

What should we do for Yamame-san?
    • Apologize
    • Prostrate
    • Treat her to tasty food
    • Be her slave for a day
    • Retry

Traffic jam on the expressway? Kilometers long traffic jams at that?!

Mind-boggling, though I'd certainly like to see one myself. Being in one, though... I think I'll pass.

That actually looks like something that could happen on the I-40 in North Carolina. (I'm assuming Japanese Expressways are roughly equivalent to the US Interstate Highways.)

We have something even more impressive than that. It's called LA Rush Hour.

Haha, ah... traveling 25 miles (~40km) in 1.5 hours. That was my LA commute for a while.

How I wish LA had a public transportation even half as decent as Tokyo's. Looks like we'll get one... when I'm old. ...hopefully.

Huh, first, we go from Yamame-san showing up on time, and now Kogasa-san and Sanae-san are the ones that are late? I can feel the power of that smile, and I wasn't even there. Something tells be by the time Yamame-san leaves again, though, she'll end up messing up something. Seeing as she already goofed on the hotel once, this makes the "score" even, right?

For the poll, let's treat her to some tasty food... and maybe enjoy a little for ourselves, while we're at it.

I-40 isn't too bad depending on the time of day. I've always thought the US-1 route is more of a pain actually so I take 440 usually XD

If thats not the best troll face ever, I don't know what is XD

Seconding; is there isn't traffic on route 1, there's construction going on, because they have to fix what isn't broken.

Never had to go very far on Route 1, but a few years ago there was construction on 440 about half the time I drove on it (and I only really drove on half of it, so I assumed there was always construction somewhere), but I worked the graveyard shift, so maybe they only did construction at night back then. 40/440 does get kind of nasty around rush hour (not as bad as some places, but kind of nasty), and the perfect storm in the comic might get it down around 8mph.

That's a very good question. And looking at fun_bo's work and the last panel of this strip, you may be on to something here...

I think Yamame set this up intentionally just to show them what it's like to be in their shoes.

Can someone please explain me when to use "合" instead of "会"?

会う is the simple one: "to meet". It's virtually never used as an auxiliary verb (except in 出会う, which barely counts). There's also 遭う, which is the one you're technically supposed to use in ひどい目に遭う (but everybody just writes it in hiragana); it's the same as 会う, but with a negative connotation.

合う is "to match/go together"; for instance, 話が合う ("to agree/get along"), literally "[one's] conversations match [with someone else]". When used an auxiliary verb, it means "to do X to/with each other", which you can think of as a sort of metaphorical extension of its usual meaning: "to match [someone] in doing X". The one in this comic, 待ち合わせ, uses the causative form 合わせる, but the concept is the same: "to make [one's] waiting match [with someone else]", if you will.

Funny, I was thinking of I-85 myself. I've seen it turn into the world's longest parking lot.

    Okay!♡
Tōmei Expressway: 9 km traffic jam from an accident at the Hadano-Nakai interchange.
Tōmei Expressway: 10 km of natural congestion at the Mikkabi junction.

Arrived at the hotel at 3:00 p.m.
    Phew, we finally made it!
