Apparently they are real and are called "circle lenses." Going by this New York Times article from 2010 they're illegal to be sold in the US without a prescription, but of course still being sold without it and gaining popularity at the time of the article.

Wow, That's why she so different from manga.

To be fair "constricted pupils" dont look appeal to me, and this way she looks kinda like Kaoru from Amagami,which is a good thing for me.

Well even if it wasn't as appealing, the characters did describe her as "creepy." Though she really didn't give off that much of a creepy vibe in the anime as she did in the manga.

There were a few things from which the anime fell short.

I'm glad they gave her normal eyes in the anime if only for the sole purpose of this image existing.
