I don't know how it was played in the anime, but in the manga his mind-reading was downright cheating (and of course, he ALWAYS had a countermove ready no matter what the opponent was going to do).
Then again, I do agree that Pegasus was an interesting antagonist, definitely better than Kaiba IMHO.

A bit late with the reply, but I thought I should throw my input.
His mind reading is probably the strongest ability in a card game, but it wouldn't be that amazing if it wasn't for the fact that every single character can pull ANY card they want from the deck. Magically. Like. All the time.
Being able to read minds only makes trap cards useless, and slightly hinder strategies of the opponent if you managed to pull counter cards on your own.
