Does Japan actually have remotes with a row of 10-11-12 below the usual 1 to 9 buttons? I must have gone through a dozen or more different remotes in my life so far, a few of them from Japanese manufacturers, and all of them have had a zero in the middle, with a special button on the left and right.

Yep. I just checked, and all three of my remotes have 10-11-12 on the bottom row.
